چکیده

A progressive way in photodynamic therapy is to design photosensitive agents that may operate at lower optical power. Hybrid organic–inorganic silver-, iron-, and silver&iron-contained nanoparticles (NPs) were synthesized using H. perforatum extract explored as photosensitizers for anticancer antimicrobial therapies ultra-low power light (2.30 mW/cm2). silver- NPs revealed the most promising results therapy: a concentration of 25 μg/mL, difference between viability non-radiated irradiated HeLa cells was up 71%. Importantly, cancer are more assailable hybrid NP activity than normal fibroblast MSU-1.1 cell line, which observed both “dark” cytotoxicity DCFH-DA assays. Oxidative stress induced by iron- higher (≥1.7 times) cells. For therapy, (at μg/mL) found be being bacteriostatic against E. coli S. aureus condition bactericidal after irradiation. Antimicrobial properties result synergy activities silver. The highest efficiency bacteria achieved concentrations conditions silver apart less or not active. Furthermore, combine with ability enhance magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast. This combination makes these materials biomedical application near-surface inflammatory disorders, possibility their visualization MRI.

Ultra-low-power hybrid light–matter solitons

New functionalities in nonlinear optics will require systems with giant optical nonlinearity as well as compatibility with photonic circuit fabrication techniques. Here we introduce a platform based on strong light-matter coupling between waveguide photons and quantum-well excitons. On a sub-millimetre length scale we generate picosecond bright temporal solitons at a pulse energy of only 0.5 pJ...

Metallobacteriochlorophylls as potential dual agents for photodynamic therapy and chemotherapy

A theoretical analysis of bacteriochlorophyll a containing its non-native divalent metal ions: Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Ru, Rh, Pd, and Pt, has been carried out by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The main stress was put on the derivatives with metals, which already found applications as coordination compounds in anti-tumor therapy (Ru, Pt, Pd, and Rh). The idea was to combine thei...

Oxygen Self-Sufficient Amphiphilic Polypeptide Nanoparticles Encapsulating BODIPY for Potential Near Infrared Imaging-guided Photodynamic Therapy at Low Energy

Near infrared (NIR) imaging-guided photodynamic therapy (PDT) is remarkable for its high-efficiency in "see and treat" field. However, hypoxia of cancer cell limits PDT dues to the low singlet oxygen yield. Here MnO2 conjugated multifunctional polypeptide nanoparticles encapsulating photosensitizer BODIPY has been prepared via a one-step reaction, which can generate oxygen in cancer cytoplasm w...

Pattern Formation at Ultra - Low Light Levels

From swarming bacteria to social interactions among humans, the emergence of patterns in nature is ubiquitous. Pattern formation is often governed by collective dynamics, wherein individual components of a system begin to move or organize in a coherent way. The generation of patterns in nonlinear dynamical systems is found in nearly all subfields of science and provides insight into some of the...
